NORTH MUSKEGON — Mason County Central’s girls basketball team played a solid game in every facet and earned a convincing 60-39 victory over North Muskegon on Tuesday night. 

The West Michigan Conference Rivers Division contest was played in North Muskegon. 

“They played some funky zone defenses against us, and our kids did a great job of adjusting in the second half,” Spartans coach Brian Beebe said. “Our posts got to the rim, and the guards did a good job finding them.” 

Mason County took a 35-19 lead at the half, and after a sluggish third quarter, outscored North Muskegon 15-8 in the final quarter to pull away. 

Wren Nelson recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Mallory Miller was the game’s high scorer with 17 and Grace Weinert had 10. 

“Mason County is very deep and played an incredible balanced game,” North Muskegon coach Jill Young said. “Our hats are off to them.” 

North Muskegon was led by Marilyn Gaston with 12 points, while Delaney Young added nine and Allie Jensen finished with eight. 

The Spartans improved to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, with their next game scheduled for Wednesday at Hesperia. 

North Muskegon fell to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Norsemen are at Hesperia Friday night.
