HART – Hart’s boys basketball team turned in an impressive performance on Monday and downed Muskegon Catholic, 69-40.

The Pirates dominated the game for nearly the entirety of Monday night’s action with the Crusaders. After grabbing a 19-5 lead in the first quarter, there wasn’t much stopping Hart from sprinting to the finish line.

Muskegon Catholic did make things interesting in the second and third quarters, giving the Pirates some offensive looks that confused them and helped narrow the deficit to just six points. Hart’s Blake Weirich scored eight points of his game-high 25 points in the second quarter and then another nine in the third to keep his team rolling.

Weirich also had 10 rebounds and four assists while Brendan Hiddema added 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Jesse Jacobs also chipped in eight points while Caleb Ackley led the team in rebounds with 12.

The Crusaders had just one player in double figures as Aaron Lamach scored 12. Jacob Lyonnais added nine points and Q Lorenz had eight.

Hart (6-7, 5-2 WMC Rivers) have now won three in a row as they enter a stretch of non-conference contests. The Pirates will host Manistee on Thursday.

Muskegon Catholic (2-11, 0-1 Alliance League) will look to break a recent string of losses when they host Ravenna on Tuesday.
