ALPENA – The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks sent an early message with their intensity and strong play on Friday.

The end result was a 78-50 victory over the Alpena Lumberjacks in a makeup game that was previously canceled due to weather.

Right from the opening tip, the Jayhawks meant business and raced out to a 22-9 lead after one quarter. By halftime, MCC (10-9, 4-2) had a 41-27 advantage. The Jayhawk defense helped cause the Lumberjacks to commit 27 turnovers. MCC had 16 steals.

“It was a good win today,” Lady Jayhawk coach Jason Cooper said. “The team really came out and hustled. We need the same intensity (Saturday).” MCC plays at Kirkland on Saturday to complete its weekend road trip.

Muskegon Community College outscored Alpena 37-23 in the second half to win the game in a rout.

Ty’veonna Davis led MCC with a double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds. She also had five steals and two assists. McKena Wilson also hit 20 points on the night. Miaya Hill also hit double figures with 10 points. She also had six rebounds and four assists.

Remi Sponseller had eight points and two rebounds and Arrionna Williams had eight points. Kaitlyn Bennett had five rebounds.
