FREMONT — Ludington got hot, nailed 11 3-pointers and ripped Fremont 74-45 in a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division road game, 74-45 Friday night.

Spencer Holmes and David Shillinger (25 points) led the Orioles’ long-range barrage with four 3-point buckets apiece and Rob Killips tossed in three.

“We came out of the gates well and just kind of cruised from there,” Ludington coach Thad Shank said. “I thought we really got out in transition tonight and just ran past Fremont in the early stages of the basketball game.

“I thought we did a really good of sharing the ball, and we’ve been shooting the ball really well as of late.”

The Orioles ran away from the Packers in the first quarter, sprinting to a 25-6 lead. But scoring was much closer in the second period, although Ludington still had the edge on Fremont, 16-15 and enjoyed a 20-point advantage, 41-21, at the half.

Fremont never quit, but the battle to make up the ground simply couldn’t be won. The Orioles outscored the Packers 20-11 in the third and it was 61-32 heading into the fourth period.

Holmes and Cameron Gunsell added 14 apiece and Killips had 11.

Gavin Richards led the Packers with 11 points.

Ludington improves to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference to stay in second place behind undefeated Whitehall (7-0 conference). The Orioles travel to Oakridge for their next conference game Thursday night.

The Packers suffered their second straight loss and fell to 7-9 overall, 3-5 in the conference. Fremont hosts Grant in a non-conference game Monday.
