MUSKEGON – The shorthanded Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks didn’t let a short bench hinder its success on Saturday.

With seven healthy players, the Lady Jayhawks blistered Alpena 77-44 in a conference game at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.

“It was a good win for the program today,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “The team responded well after our disappointing loss on the road on Wednesday.”

The Lady Jayhawks (12-10, 6-3) led 18-13 after one quarter and 39-25 at the half.  A strong third quarter saw MCC outscore the Lumberjacks 21-8 and took a comfortable lead into the final quarter.

“I’m proud of how we handled the Alpena defense and how hard we played on both ends of the floor,” Cooper said.

On the offensive end,

Ty’veonna Davis led the Lady Jayhawks with 22 points and 14 rebounds. McKena Wilson scored 20 points. Ali Phillips added 16 points and Maiya Hill had 10 as the Lady Jayhawks put four players in double figures. Phillips and Hill each had six rebounds. Hill had four assists. Remi Sponseller added nine rebounds and Gaby Reeve had six rebounds. Alexis McMahon pulled down three rebounds.

Alpena is now 6-14, 4-5.

MCC returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Grand Rapids Community College at Bartels-Rode Gymnasium.
