The pins are being set up and the award winners are getting ready to knock them down.

Local Sports Journal’s Varsity Blues Sports Award show is hitting the Frauenthal Theater stage on Saturday, February 17 and high school athletes will walk away winners.

The new annual sports awards show focuses on prep athletes from around LSJ’s coverage area.

From Grand Haven to Manistee to White Cloud, LSJ staff members, area coaches and athletic directors and sports gurus, have been weighing in on which athletes deserved nomination for each special award.

The unique event is set to celebrate the hard work that high school athletes put in on a day-to-day basis.

Among the many awards highlighting student athletes from Local Sports Journal’s coverage territory, the MOTIV Bowling Award focuses on the top female and male high school bowlers.

The following names are the nominees for the MOTIV Bowling Award:

Female
Lauren Prokopec, Grand Haven
Taylor Nutt, Ravenna
Kira Twining, Oakridge

Bianca Kammers, Reeths-Puffer

Male
Derek Kern, Mona Shores
Braden Krohn, Fruitport
Ashton Tjapkes, Orchard View

Bowling has been an integral part of the greater Muskegon area sports culture for decades. With Brunswick having its global headquarters in Muskegon for so many years, access to bowling products has been easy for area enthusiasts.

But when Brunswick took its manufacturing base to the south, MOTIV entered into Spring Lake and quickly named West Michigan its home.

MOTIV’s commitment to high performance products is seen throughout the professional and amateur bowling landscape.

MOTIV bowling balls won first place in every single performance category, beating all the other brands in the business. The MOTIV bowling team also includes 2023 Bowler of the Year, E.J. Tackett, who was recently among the top finishers in the 2024 U.S. Open.

The generous crew at MOTIV was so excited about LSJ’s awards show, it decided to kick in special door prizes. Two LSJ fans at the event will be given brand new MOTIV bowling balls. That’s not a bad deal for just purchasing a single ticket for getting into the show.

Tickets for the event can be picked up at the Frauenthal Theater’s box office in downtown Muskegon or can be purchased online by clicking here.
