PENTWATER – Pentwater’s girls basketball team squashed Bear Lake 48-19 in a West Michigan D League win Friday night in Pentwater.

It was the Falcons’ second straight win.

The Falcons started out slowly on offense and managed just seven points. But they held the Lakers to just two, and that set the tone for the rest of the game.

A 10-2 advantage in the second period gave the Falcons a solid 17-4 lead at halftime.

Pentwater outscored Bear Lake 15-11 in the third quarter and had a 32-15 starting the fourth period. The Falcons outscored the Lakers 16-4 in the final eight minutes.

“Bear Lake is a very young team, but their coach has them playing very well and they fought hard coming out of halftime,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “We were able to figure out their man-to-man defensive pressure in the fourth quarter and got a lot of open looks to put the game away.”

Sam Schaefer paced the Falcons with 12 points. She also dished off four assists and hauled down 14 rebounds. Aubrie Adams followed her with 10 points with three assists and three steals.

Charlie Swanger scored nine points and ripped down a team-leading 16 rebounds. Lauren Davis also finished with nine points and added 10 boards.

The Falcons improved to 9-4 overall, 6-4 in the league. Pentwater hosts Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in another WMD matchup Wednesday night.
