HESPERIA – For the second time in the span of a week, Shelby’s boys basketball team dominated Holton by a large margin of victory, winning a 55-31 contest on Monday.

Shelby opened up the game moving the ball around well and finding open guys all over the court. That combined with stingy defense allowed the Tigers to build a 35-11 lead by halftime.

By the end of the game, the Tigers had gotten contributions from 10 different players. Phillip Hayes was the game’s top scorer with 15 points while Wyatt Dickman chipped in 10. Sophomore Eli Kelley also had eight points, hitting on two big 3-point buckets.

“It was nice to see our guys get off to a good start offensively as well as defensively,” Shelby coach Rick Zoulek said. “We played solid team defense and really moved the ball nicely on offense. “

Shelby (5-18) will move on to the district semifinals where they’ll face unbeaten North Muskegon. That game will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Hesperia.
