Hart surges into lead in second quarter, cruises to victory over Mason County Central

MANISTEE – The Hart Pirates defeated league-foe Mason County Central in the opening round of the Division 2 district basketball tournament.

The Pirates captured a 46-34 victory over the Spartans in a game played at Manistee.

Mason County Central led 15-10 after one quarter, but Hart stormed back in the second quarter and led 26-18 at the half. Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter with each team putting up just four points. Hart led 30-22 heading into the final quarter.

Senior Blake Weirich led Hart with 14 points. He also dished out six assists. Sophomore Caleb Ackley continued to chip in with consistent minutes for the Pirates with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Junior Kaden Bond scored eight points and ran the Hart offense efficiently.

Hart will take on Reed City at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the district semifinal.
