MUSKEGON – The Fruitport boys basketball team escaped the opening round of the Division 2 district tournament with a narrow 63-58 overtime win over host Orchard View on Monday night.

The Trojans opened hot with a 13-3 first-quarter scoring run, but that changed by the half as the Cardinals pulled to within one point by halftime, 23-22.

The small lead continued as the Trojans managed to stay ahead until the fourth quarter when the Cardinals tied it up in regulation at 51 points. Keith McAllister hit a long 3 for the Cardinals to force the extra period.

However, the Trojans held on and outscored the Cardinals for the win.

DayDay Williams led the Trojans with 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Grade Anspach poured in 21 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Ryan Bosch had seven points and 13 rebounds.

Fruitport (6-17) will take on Oakridge on Wednesday.

Orchard View closed out the season with a record of 6-17.
