LUDINGTON — Behind the scoring of Spencer Holmes and David Shillinger, the Ludington boys’ basketball team recorded a 70-41 victory over Montague Tuesday night at Hawley Gymnasium.

The West Michigan Conference Lakes Division matchup was supposed to be the first of back-to-back games, but Wednesday’s game has been postponed.

Spencer Holmes sparked the Orioles to a 17-5 first quarter with four points, and then Shillinger took over in the second with 10 as the Orioles mounted a 33-18 halftime lead on the Wildcats.

Ludington did not let up in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 17-10 in the third quarter for a 50-28 lead and then had a 20-13 fourth period.

“I don’t think Montague is very comfortable playing against a lot of pressure defense,” said Ludington coach Thad Shank. “That’s kind of in our wheelhouse.”

Shillinger poured in a game-high 31 points for the Orioles, while Holmes contributed 20.

Cole Herremans led the Wildcats with nine points and Brandon Raeth added eight.

The Orioles upped their record to 12-5 overall, 7-1 in the conference. Ludington travels to Whitehall on Friday night for a conference game.

Montague dropped to 11-8 with its second straight loss, 4-6 in the conference. The Wildcats host Fremont in another conference game Friday night.
