The Spring Lake girls’ basketball squad played a strong offensive game during the first half before the defense closed it out on Friday in a 45-28 win over Fruitport.

The Lakers jumped out to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter and led 31-20 at halftime.

Spring Lake outscored the Trojans 7-1 during the third quarter then both squads scored seven points during the final eight minutes.

The Lakers were led by Alexa Carter with 16 points and eight rebounds while Ellie Wrona, who nailed three 3-point baskets, scored 13. Ella Andree chipped in nine points, eight rebounds and three assists for Spring Lake.

The Trojans were paced by Izzy Hanson-Wilbur with 13 points.

The Lakers improved to 11-3 on the season, 6-2 in conference play, while Fruitport fell to 5-9 overall and 0-8 in league competition.
