BIG RAPIDS — A solid middle two quarters drove the Ludington girls basketball team to a 36-23 victory over Reed City in the Division 2 district championship game Friday night in Big Rapids.

The Coyotes forged an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Orioles then put the defensive squeeze on them in the second and allowed just two points and took a 19-10 halftime cushion.

Ludington outscored Reed City 10-5 in the third period and started the fourth quarter with a 29-15 advantage. Reed City had an 8-7 edge in the final period.

Peyton Welch led the Orioles with 10 points, Elianna Jeruzal added eight while Madelyn Kenyon and Jordyn Anderson each scored six.

The Orioles improved their record to 18-7. They are next scheduled to meet Clare in the regional tournament at 7 p.m. Monday in Shepherd.
