FRUITPORT – The Muskegon Catholic girls’ basketball squad is Division 4 district champs.

The Crusaders captured the title with a 31-28 win over Grand Rapids Sacred Heart on Friday at Fruitport Calvary Christian High School.

MCC outlasted the Falcons using a balanced fourth-quarter attack. Four different players scored in the final eight minutes with Leona Kotecki leading the way.

Kotecki shot 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final quarter and led MCC with 11 points on the night. Lindsay Ladd scored four points while Daeja Hill and Claire Carlton each chipped in two points to lift the Crusaders in the fourth.

The teams played to a 3-all tie after the first quarter and MCC led 13-12 at halftime. The Crusaders struggled in the third quarter with just three made free throws, but still held on to a 19-all tie going into the fourth.

Six players scored on the night as Ladd finished with seven points while Hill finished with four. Drea Johnson, Kenzie Kammeraad and Carlton each finished with three points.

MCC (10-12) will next play at 7 p.m. Monday in the regional semifinal against Fowler (21-3).
