YOUNGSTOWN – The Muskegon Lumberjacks didn’t produce many shots on Saturday night, but they were awarded enough on the ones they did take.

The Jacks only managed 16 shots in the contest, but it was enough to sneak past Youngstown 3-2 at the Covelli Centre in Ohio.

Muskegon has won three in a row and is 31-17-2 on the season. The Jacks leaped over Green Bay in the standings for second place with 12 games remaining in the regular season.

The Lumberjacks will look to sweep Youngstown in the finale at of the three-game series at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

Muskegon only managed three shots on net during the first period and trailed 1-0 on a Phantom goal from Nathan Lewis at the 9:53 mark.

The Lumberjacks improved in the second period with six shots and two of them got past Youngstown goaltender Colin Winn.

Matvei Gridin tied the game 1-all at the 5:22 mark of the second period before Youngstown regained its advantage at 2-1 with a goal from Charlie Cerrato at 12:17.

Cody Croal tied the contest at 2-all with a Lumberjacks goal 15:18 into the second period.

The Lumberjacks produced seven shots during the final 20 minutes and scored the lone, and game-winning goal, from Joe Connor at the 2:42 mark.

Youngstown outshot the Lumberjacks 28-16. Shikhabutdin Gadzhiev earned the victory in net for the Jacks.
