LOWELL – The Mona Shores girls’ lacrosse team pulled out its first win of the season with a tight 8-7 win over Lowell on Tuesday.
“Playing on back-to-back nights, we showed some resilience, and I was really proud how they gutted out this win,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “We are young, athletic and fast and I see flashes of what we can be—but sometimes the youth side gets in the way.”
Lainee Carmean led the Shores attack with a hat trick, followed by Emma Reelman with two goals. Reese Smith added a goal and a pair of assists. Cambree Bowen and Danika Johnson each chipped in a single score.
Freshman goalkeeper Ansley Hayward had a strong night with 15 saves.
“Hayward had probably one of the best games I’ve seen in a long time,” said Vasquez. “She is so talented and I know the best is still to come.”
Mona Shores (1-4 overall, 1-1 O-K Green) will be at home for league play against Jenison on Friday.
“Our defense is coming along. We changed some things up and we played much better as a unit tonight,” Vasquez said.
