BIG RAPIDS — Despite the inclement weather that knocked out several athletic contests elsewhere, the Ludington girls soccer team made the trip to Big Rapids Tuesday for a non-conference game with the Cardinals.

Playing in a constant rain and a strong wind which made it seem even colder than the actual air temperature, the Orioles dropped their season opener, 1-0.

The score was 0-0 at the half.

“It was tough conditions to play in,” Ludington coach Kris Anderson said. “We had some chances. Easily the result could have gone the other way.

“We had some great opportunities. Emma McKinley took a shot in the second half and their goalkeeper bobbled it, and it looked like it was going to cross the line. It had to be pretty close.”

Anderson was hoping a gust of wind might just blow it across, but it didn’t and the Orioles didn’t have anyone there for the rebound to just poke it in.

It was a tough loss, but Anderson added that there were a lot of encouraging signs.

Cambria Britton played the whole game in goal for the Orioles and was credited with 18 saves.
