NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls lacrosse team bagged a convincing 11-4 OK-Green win over Jenison on Friday.

“We did a lot of good things tonight,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “We controlled the draw circle and it led to some fast-break opportunities. We played our style of lacrosse and that’s by pushing the ball.”

Reese Smith led the way with four goals, while Lainee Carmean added three goals. Emma Reelman chipped in two goals, two assists and three draw controls. Also, Ava Hower netted a pair of goals.

“Our transition in the midfield was better tonight, but we still have room for improvement,” said Vasquez. “Reelman did a great job tonight with the draw and our circle players were very aggressive which is what we need to gain possession.”

Ansley Hayward made five saves in the net.

The Sailors pulled up some players from JV who saw some playing time.

“Three freshmen were just thrown in there to be the second-line midfielders and they handled themselves very well,” Vasquez said.

Mona Shores (2-4, 2-1) will be back at home on Monday for league play against Hudsonville.
