NORTON SHORES – The Spring Lake baseball team swept Western Michigan Christian in a twin-bill on Friday evening.

The Lakers cruised to an 18-4 mercy rule win in the opening game against the Warriors. In the second game, the Lakers won 6-2 in a game shortened due to darkness.

The Lakers’ Maddux Kippling gave up just three hits and struck out six batters in four innings. Max Miller struck out one, while Will Liggett struck out two at relief for the Warriors.

Will Maye led the Lakers with two hits and four runs. Jaden Core added two hits and Zane Stahl had three RBI.

The Warriors’ Alex Wagenmaker had two hits and a run, while Quint Menefee had a two-run double. Miller chipped in a single.

The Lakers also claimed the nightcap.

Oliver Smies gave up four hits and struck out seven batters for the Lakers.

WMC’s Wagenmaker had one strikeout and Liggett threw three innings of relief.

Core and Stahl posted three and two hits, respectively.

Liggett got the Warriors rolling with a two-out, two-run double.

Spring Lake (5-0) will be at home on Monday for an OK-Blue doubleheader.

WMC (2-2) is set to travel to Tri-Unity Christian on Tuesday.
