NORTON SHORES – The Western Michigan Christian girls soccer team finished on top in a battle of highly ranked teams with NorthPointe Christian on Friday.

The No. 13 ranked Warriors edged out No. 6 NorthPointe Christian, 2-1, in non-conference play.

“For us not playing in two weeks, I thought we played incredibly well,” said WMC coach Jared McFarland. “We had solid defense all night and limited opportunities forward. We applied some things we have been working on in training in our attack.”

The Warriors opened with energy on the offense, allowing Nora Pollock to score the game’s first goal.

The Warriors’ pressure continued into the second half and Pollock again found the net to put them up, 2-0.

The Mustangs managed a late-game goal, but were held off by the Warriors.

WMC outshot the Mustangs 14-3.

Goalkeeper Elaina Clapp made two saves.

WMC (2-1-1, 1-1-1) will travel to Wyoming Potter’s House on Tuesday.
