ZEELAND – The Mona Shores girls’ lacrosse team cruised past Zeeland East, 11-3, on Wednesday.

The Sailors’ defense held Zeeland East scoreless through the first 2 1/2 quarters.

“We are improving,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “Every game we just need to take care of the ball a little better, transition a little cleaner and use our speed to our advantage. Turnovers are going to happen. It’s just the unforced ones that need to be cleaned up.”

Lainee Carmean and Reese Smith led the attack with three goals each. Emma Reelman added a pair of scores, while Danika Johnson had two goals and an assist. Ava Hower chipped in one goal.

Goalkeeper Ansley Hayward stopped seven shots.

Mona Shores (3-5, 3-2) will host Kalamazoo Central on Monday.
