MUSKEGON – The Oakridge softball team edged out Mona Shores, 7-5, in a single game on Wednesday.

“It was a back and forth, hard-fought game,” said Oakridge coach Joe Coletta. “Both teams played hard. It’s so good to have a competitive game like this early in the season for both teams going forward.”

Kaelinn Josza earned the win on the mound. She gave up nine hits, five runs, two walks and struck out six batters. Kylee Willea came in as relief and had two strikeouts.

Gracie Clark scored a two-run homer and had a double for the Eagles. Madison Clark also had a two-run home run and added a single. Rylee Vanderputte had an RBI and two singles, while Willea had a triple and two singles.

The Sailors’ Miley Peterson allowed seven hits, three runs and had one strikeout. Lilly Baskin gave up four runs in relief.

Amelia Pena and Maggie McCarthy each recorded two hits. Brooklyn Graham, Maddy Fought, Emma Mettler, Peterson and Baskin had a hit apiece.

Oakridge (3-0) will compete in the Lakeshore Grand Slam at Ross Park on Saturday.

Mona Shores (0-3) will be at home for a doubleheader against Muskegon on Tuesday.
