SPRING LAKE – The Spring Lake Laker baseball team has seen better days than what transpired on Monday.

The Lakers hosted the Coopersville Broncos in a doubleheader and lost the opening game 7-2 and the nightcap, 9-0.

In the first game, Coopersville broke open a tight game with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Lakers finished the game with five hits, led by Gabe Trask with two hits and an RBI. Jade Core had an RBI double. Zane Stahl (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound. He allowed seven runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

In the second game, Spring Lake was limited to just one hit, which came from Zach Schlepp. Maddux Kipling took the loss with very little support from the Lakers, which also committed five errors to go with just the one hit.

The game ended in the sixth inning due to darkness.

“Coopersville really took it to us today,” Spring Lake coach Bill Core said. “And, if I know this team as well as I think I do, we will pick ourselves up, continue to work hard and bounce back.”

Spring Lake is now 5-2 overall, 3-2 in the OK-Blue. Coopersville is 7-1, 4-1.
