NORTON SHORES – The Mona Shores girls took a tough 11-8 loss in lacrosse against Grand Rapids Christian on Monday evening.

This was the Sailors’ fifth game in just four days.

“It’s tough when early-season games get canceled and we have to make them up later in the year,” said Mona Shores coach Chip Vasquez. “We just have to pick a date and go with it.”

The Sailors came out slow and were down 5-0 early in the second quarter, but battled back and trailed 5=4 at the half.

“We had plenty of opportunities to score, but you just have to keep shooting,” said Vasquez. “Eventually, they will see the back of the net.”

Lainee Carmean led Shores with four goals, six ground balls, two forced turnovers and six draw controls. Emma Reelman added two goals and two ground balls, while Morgan Osterhart had a goal, three ground balls, three forced turnovers and four draw controls.

Reese Smith chipped in a goal, an assist, three ground balls and one draw control. Jordyn Briseno contributed an assist, three ground balls and two forced turnovers.

“We played a good Grand Rapids Christian team tonight,” Vasquez said. “We are really close and I can’t wait until it all comes together.”

Mona Shores (6-10, 5-5) will travel to Byron Center on Thursday for the final conference game of the season.
