MT. PLEASANT — Ludington took a 1-0 lead 3 minutes into the game, but then saw Bay City Western score four unanswered goals for a 4-1 in a MHSAA Division 2 girls soccer district matchup in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday.

Ludington’s only goal was scored by Maddie Billings. Bay City answered with the equalizer five minutes later and the two teams went into the half tied 1-all.

“We were outplayed the rest of the (first) half and we just needed to make it to halftime to regroup,” Ludington coach Kris Anderson said.

The Orioles did exactly that and carried the play to Western through the first 15 minutes of the second period, but failed on two quality opportunities.

Bay City went ahead 2-1 about 25 minutes into the second half and added a goal on a penalty kick.

“Western took advantage and kept the pressure on us,” Anderson added. “This one is hard because we didn’t play our best game and that hurts. Tonight, we just didn’t execute and that is hard to take when you know you didn’t play your best.”

Ludington (6-8-4) graduates just two seniors, although they were important pieces. Everyone else is expected to return which means high expectations for next season.
