SCOTTVILLE — Ludington and Hart split a pair of games in the annual Ace Hardware girls’ softball tournament in Scottville on Saturday.

Host Mason County Central went 0-2 on the day.

The Orioles defeated the Spartans 10-7 before losing to the Pirates, 12-2.

In the first game, Olivia Parsons was in the pitching circle for Ludington. She lasted just 0.2 of an inning before Jody Meisenheimer threw the remaining 3.1 innings, giving up one hit, two walks and striking out one.

Taesyah Hendricks paced the O’s at the plate with two hits while Meisenheimer and Maddie Enbody each stroked out a double and collected two runs batted in.

Riley Mast was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Spartans.

Parsons again was the starting pitcher against the Pirates. She walked eight and gave up just two hits throwing the first 1.2 innings before being relieved by Meisenheimer and then coming back to finish the game. She gave up two hits, eight walks and struck out one.

Meisenheimer threw 1.2 innings of relief and gave up five hits, walked two and struck out a pair.

Hendricks was the leading hitter for the Orioles with two hits and two RBI.

“The girls are working hard right now to improve and we could see that today,” said Ludington coach Sierra Holmes. “We ran the bases better and our thought process on defense was pretty solid.”

Hart turned back the Spartans in their game, 9-4.

Mast went 2-for-2 at the plate for Mason County, while Emily Adams, Wren Nelson and Mikaylah all had single hits.

“We started both games in a bad way and had to play catch-up the rest of the games,” said Spartans coach Jon Blake. “We gave up 15 runs collectively in the first inning of both games. We just need to settle down earlier and start better.”

Ludington (2-18) is scheduled to travel to Fremont on Tuesday in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

The Spartans (5-9) return to West Michigan Conference Rivers Division competition Tuesday when they travel to Ravenna.
