GRAND HAVEN – The Grand Haven football team found a rhythm in the second half and put away West Ottawa, 26-14, on Friday evening.

The Bucs had a balanced attack with 168 yards passing and 136 yards on the ground.

Sophomore Andrew Willemsen was a workhorse and rushed for 143 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown.

Quarterback Luke Berry was 9-of-18 passing for 115 yards. Xzavier Rodriguez threw a single pass for a 53-yard touchdown to Collin Munford and had a rushing score. Will Koenstra caught four passes for 55 yards.

Levi Tubergan led the defense with six tackles. Rodriguez made five tackles, including one for a loss, while Jonah Broemer recorded four tackles. Sawyer Harrison added three tackles, including a sack and a tackle for a loss. Jason Diaz De Leon had a tackle for a loss.

West Ottawa’s Conor Knapp was 7-for-14 passing with 98 yards and a touchdown. Knapp also had nine carries for 70 yards.

Kayden Forbes had 18 rushing attempts for 57 yards and a score. Elijah Reynolds had two catches for 51 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown. 

Tai Hescott had a game-high eight tackles and Jake Gerrits had 7 1/2 tackles. Kris Bronkhorst added five tackles.

Grand Haven (2-1) will be back at home on Friday to face Caledonia.

West Ottawa (0-3) will be at home against East Kentwood on Friday.
