NORTH MUSKEGON–North Muskegon junior quarterback James Young has had a stellar start to his junior season for the Norsemen.

For his efforts, Young has been selected as the Local Sports Journal Football Athlete of the Month (Offense) for August.

In the Norse’ two wins over Pewamo-Westphalia and Muskegon Catholic Central, Young completed 33-of-46 passes (72 percent) for 582 yards. He has thrown six touchdown passes with no interceptions. He has 25 yards rushing on 11 carries.

“James is having a tremendous season thus far” said North Muskegon veteran coach Larry Witham. “His thorough understanding of our offensive and game plan can be seen by the decisions he is making throughout the course of the each of our first two contests.

“The growth he has made during the offseason and summer months both physically and mentally has really made him a complete threat behind center,” Witha said. “Not only has he demonstrated an ability to make all the throws, but his ability to extend plays with his legs while keeping his eyes up field makes him dangerous out of the pocket.  He takes what the defense gives him.”

All athlete of the month selections for August are sponsored by Jake Kantola – State Farm, located in Muskegon.
