HOLLAND — The host Holland Christian Maroons scored with 2:32 remaining in the game on Friday night and nipped the Spring Lake Lakers 21-20.

The 45-yard touchdown pass erased a 20-14 Laker lead.

Jack Duggins’ interception return for a touchdown was the only score of the opening quarter. Spring Lake led, 6-0.

Holland Christian back and tied the game on a 15-yard touchdown pass then took a 7-6 lead when it converted on the point after.

Spring Lake regained the lead when sophomore quarterback Reid Grimmer hooked up with Jackson Lemmen on a 9-yard touchdown pass. The conversion gave Spring Lake a shortlived 13-7 lead.

Holland Christian took a 14-13 lead with 1:13 remaining in the first half, but Grimmer and the Lakers weren’t finished. With 39 seconds left in the half, Grimmer hit Lemmen on a 23-yard touchdown pass and the Lakers led 20-14 at the half.

That score remained until the final Maroon touchdown in the final minutes of the game.

Grimmer completed 5-of-11 passes for 65 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Bryce Collins rushed 13 times for 61 yards to lead the Lakers. Duggin led the defense with 5 1/2 tackles.

The Lakers host Fruitport next Friday.
