The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored four second-period goals to overcome an early deficit and cruise past the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 5-2 on Friday at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.
The Lumberjacks have won three straight and are now 3-1 on the season. They will remain in Cedar Rapids to play the RoughRiders Saturday night.
Collin Adams paced Muskegon with two goals and an assist while Derek Daschke and Casey Gilling each had a goal and an assist.
The RoughRiders opened the scoring with a power play goal by Matt Hudie at the 10:56 mark of the first period.
Muskegon tied the game 1-1 early in the second period on a goal from Adams. Andrei Svechnikov and Casey Gilling picked up assists on the tally.
Adams scored his second goal at the 12:13 mark of the second period to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 advantage. Scooter Brickey and Daschke assisted on the goal.
The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 4-1 with two more second-period goals, from Daschke and Gilling, just 1:45 apart.
Adams, Login Drevitch, Koby Bender and Travis Mitchell each had assists on the second-period goals.
The RoughRiders cut their deficit to 4-2 on a goal from A.J. Villella at the 15:43 mark of the third period.
Muskegon added an empty net goal from Zach Berzolla with 1:23 left in regulation.
Lumberjacks’ goaltender Keith Petruzzelli stopped 25 of 27 shots. Muskegon outshot the RoughRiders by a 36-27 margin.
