The host Shelby Tigers swept a nonleague softball doubleheader against Western Michigan Christian on Monday.

The Tigers won the opener 18-0 and the nightcap 15-0.

In the first game, Brooke Morse and Whitney James each had three hits for the Tigers. Morse scored three runs and knocked in two while James scored once and knocked in two runs. Megan Polacek had two hits, two runs and two RBI. The big hit came from Abby Rodriguez, who hit a three-run inside-the-park homer.

Miranda Unger was the winning pitcher.

In the second game, Rodriguez had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in one run. Tristen Moore had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

Hanes and Lorelle Hallenbeck each had one hit for WMC.

“After playing our first five games in four days, we have learned a lot,” WMC coach Jeff Nestell said. “We have learned what our strengths are and what our weaknesses are.  Our job now is to work on our weaknesses and keep improving on our strengths.  The girls played hard today.”
