The Shelby Tiger girls basketball team was outscored Tuesday night 37-19 in the second and third quarters combined en route to a 58-38 loss to St. Louis (19-4) in the Class C regional semifinal game at Ithaca.

“We struggled with St. Louis’ pressure but we fought till the end,” said Shelby head coach Sarah Wolting. “I am very proud of my team and their accomplishments this season.  My seniors were good leaders and they will be missed but I have a young team overall and I’m excited for what’s to come in the future!”

After Shelby (15-9) opened with the 11-10 edge after one, the Sharks went up eight at the half after outscoring Shelby 19-10 in the second.

An 18-9 third-quarter edge for St. Louis sealed the victory.

Shelby’s McKenna Inglis led the Tigers with 10 points, with Tristen Moore totaling nine points and Chloe Sillman and Jozlyn Kinstner added seven points each in the loss.

The Sharks’ Michaela Austin and Ryan Fagins finished with 10 points each.

St. Louis advances to play Carson City Crystal in Thursday’s regional final game, after the Eagles (21-1) dispatched Grandville Calvin Christian (18-6) 38-34 in the late semifinal game.
