Junior Dakota Hudson returned the opening kickoff 85 yards to ignite host Ravenna Friday night in its 41-14 West Michigan Conference win against Mason County Central.

“We’ve really been practicing special teams,” stated Ravenna head coach David Smith, “so it’s really nice when you put in time like that and they score for you.”

On how the play unraveled, Smith noted, “We had a nice wall set up and he hit the lane, made a couple nice moves and then just got vertical and used his speed.”

From there the Bulldogs continued the scoring as quarterback Nick Casenholz tossed a pass to standout receiver David Thompson from 51 yards out. Thompson finished the game with two catches for 54 yards, as well as a rush for 32 yards on a reverse.

Justin Jones and Hudson each had a rushing touchdown. Then Korson Mundinger scored on a 1-yard touchdown, plus a 20-yard touchdown to go along with 53 yards on seven carries.

“It was a good win for our kids,” Smith said. “We didn’t play the best against a good Mason County Central team. To not play great and still win, is good for our kids.”

On defense, Tierstyn Mcbride had 10 tackles including three tackles for loss. Seth Morgan and Jessie Eckhardt had 7 tackles each.

For Mason County Central, Blake Bladzik had two touchdowns, a 40-yard rushing score and a 21-yard touchdown catch delivered by quarterback Spencer Knizacky.

Ravenna is 2-0 overall, 1-0 in conference play.
