The Shelby boys basketball team blew open a close game with a strong performance in the second and third quarters and claimed a 55-38 victory over Oakridge Thursday in a key West Michigan Conference game.

Shelby improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the league. Oakridge fell to 6-2 and 3-1.

The Tigers led 13-11 after one quarter, then took control by outscoring the Eagles 12-4 in the second quarter and 17-9 in the third.

Jeff Beckman led Shelby with 15 points, Caleb Anderson added 13 and Michael James had 10.

Brady Luttrull and Kaleb Cook led Oakridge with nine points apiece.
