The West Michigan Whitecaps settled for a split of their four game series with Dayton on Monday, dropping the final 8-2.

West Michigan is 41-22 on the year and remains three games ahead of Dayton and at least three games ahead of South Bend for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division with only six games remaining in the first half. South Bend was currently playing against Great Lakes at the time of this writing.

The magic number to clinch the first half division title remains at five for West Michigan.

Six different Whitecaps had hits on Monday with Austin Athmann and Danny Pinero each picking up RBIs.

Starting pitcher Alfred Gutierrez took the loss, dropping his record to 4-4. He surrendered four runs on five hits while striking out eight.

West Michigan will now travel to Bowling Green for a three-game series beginning on Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.
