The Hart football squad managed to squeeze past Mason County Central 20-14 on Friday to win their first contest of the season.

The Pirates scored the lone touchdown in the first half on a 14-yard run by O’Rian Torres late in the opening stanza.

Mason County Central responded on the first play from scrimmage during the third quarter with a 60-yard touchdown run by Austin Hofmann to tie the game 6-6.

Hart quarterback Dustin Klotz gave the Pirates a 14-6 advantage on a 27-yard touchdown run.

The Spartans quickly tied the game 14-14 on the ensuing kickoff return by Anthony Thomsen from 85 yards out.

The Pirates scored the winning touchdown late in the third stanza on a two-yard run by Torres.

Both teams were held scoreless during the fourth quarter.

Seth Andristis paced the Pirates with 83 rushing yards on 12 carries, while Klotz added 68 yards on seven attempts and one score.

The Pirates were paced defensively by Matt Robbins with four tackles.

The Spartans were led by Hofmann with 21 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown.

The Pirates are now 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in league play while Mason County Central is now 0-4 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.
