Frutport’s bid for a 9-0 regular season came to a halt on Friday night in DeWitt.

The host Panthers scored 21 points in the first half and hung on for dear life as the Trojans battled back before falling, 21-20.

Jacob Heath connected on a 32-yard touchdown to Andrew Clements to open the scoring the for the hosts. Later in the first quarter, Jacob Johnson hit Ryan Anderson for a 41-yard touchdown and the Panthers led 14-0.

In the second quarter, Johnson hit Clements for a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Fruitport came to life offensively in the second half. Dakota Gordon scored from 3 yards out in the third quarter. Gordon also scored from 3 yards out in the fourth quarter to pull Fruitport to within 21-14.

Gordon scored from 1 yard out with 5:04 left in the fourth quarter, but the extra point to tie the game was missed and DeWitt hung onto a 21-20 lead.

Matt Boroff attempted a 36-yard field goal with 38 seconds remaining, but missed wide to the right. From there, DeWitt ran out the clock.

Tyler Fehler completed 6-of-11 passes for 116 yards for the Trojans. He also rushed 15 times for 45 yards.  Gordon rushed for 148 yards on 24 carries.

Aaron Veihl was the leading receiver with four catches for 84 yards.

Gordon led the defense with nine tackles and Nathan Kriger finished with eight. Fehler had seven.

Johnson completed 18-of-28 passes for 197 yards for DeWitt. Anderson caught eight passes for 111 yards.
