SPRING LAKE – Spring Lake boys basketball already had a Lakes 8 Conference title wrapped up, but Thursday night they went for perfection.

The host Lakers jumped out to an early 21-10 lead and rolled to a 68-41win over Fremont, locking up a perfect 12-0 conference record.

“(Fremont’s) been playing very, very well,” Spring Lake coach Bill Core said. “To beat them last time at their place and again tonight, that’s a big win for us.”

Spring Lake, which had 11-of-12 of its players score on the night, had five players score in the first quarter, lead by Adam Clauss and Austin Johnson with six points each, building a 21-10 lead.

“It didn’t go well for us early,” Packers coach Pete Zerfas said. “They shot extremely well and we didn’t. We got out of our comfort zone, going up-tempo, and they took advantage of that.”

Johnson added seven more points in the second quarter as the Lakers (18-2) went to the half with a 34-17 lead.
Still not a big enough lead for Coach Core.

“I told the kids at the half, if there’s anyone on our schedule who can comeback, it’s Fremont. (But) we withstood it, anytime they made a run.”

The Packers scored the third quarters’ first four points but still ended up getting outscored 22-15, as seven Lakers scored.
Spring Lake will carry a 10-game winning streak into the district tournament next week.

Austin Johnson finished with 17 points, Erik Johnson added 12, Adam Clauss had nine points and seven assists and JP Batts added 10 rebounds.

Mike Siegal led Fremont (12-8, 8-4) with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals and Dylan Krim finished with 14 points and three assists.
