Muskegon’s Justin Abdelkader scored the game’s first goal on Monday night in the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-2 victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche.

The game was played at Joe Louis Arena.

Abdelkader’s goal came at 15:57 of the first period after a shot by Johan Franzen was saved and the rebound popped into the air. An on-rushing Aldelkader got the shaft of his stick on the puck and “bunted” it into the Avalanche net.

Detroit also received goals from Daniel Cleary, on the power play, and Damien Brunner, who scored for the first time in 16 games.

Abdelkader was named the named the No. 3 star of the game.

In his last eight games, Abdelkader has six goals and one assist.
