MUSKEGON – The 5th-ranked community college womens volleyball team in the nation, the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks, took care Thursday night of visiting Lansing Community College, defeating the Stars in three sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-13.

With the victory, the Jayhawks wrapped up at least a share of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association title. If the Jayhawks take Tuesday’s conference-season finale versus Kalmazoo Valley Community College, MCC takes the outright league title.

Leading MCC versus the Stars were Elyse Ray, who finished with seven kills, five aces, four digs and three blocks, while Beka German had nine kills, five digs and three blocks, and Meghan Birr finished with 33 assists, three kills, five digs and two blocks.

The Jayhawks’ Brandie Jones finished with 11 digs, three aces, 11 digs and three blocks, with Amber Carmean totaling 13 digs and an ace, Lindsey Kotecki had four kills and four digs, Brooke Morgan had three aces and eight digs, and Autumn Winger added three kills and three blocks in the victory.

MCC’s overall record now stands at 27-4.
