Mason County Central beat up on Montague 60-34 in WMC boys basketball action on Thursday.

The Spartans built a 29-18 first-half lead on a defensive effort that held Montague to seven points in the second quarter.

“We were able to sustain our defensive effort for the whole game,” said MCC coach Jeff Tuka. “The guys played  hard and it helped keeping a lot of fresh bodies out there.”

Kody Ambrose, Coltyn Tyndall and Drew Griffis each scored nine points for a Mason County Central team that had 10 players score. Abrose also had three assists.

Johnny Shaffer scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds while Josh Ritzema scored seven points. Nate Strejeck paced MCC on the boards with 10 rebounds and added six points.

Montague’s Luke VanBoxel scored 13 points and had four assists and three steals. Jacob Buchberger put in 10 points for the Wildcats who played their four game in six days.
