The Muskegon Community College softball team won the opener 9-1 versus Kellogg Community College, but dropped the night cap 3-2 to remain one game back of Western Conference rival Lansing in Michigan Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAA) action.

A five run sixth inning in Game 1 propelled the Jayhawks to the eight-run victory. The inning saw MCC benefit from two errors in the frame, while Meghan Birr knocked out a two-run single, while Emily Peak drove in another run to blow open the contest.

Sydney Tharp finished with two RBIs for MCC.

Megan VanderWal held Kellogg to just three hits and one earned run to log the victory.

VanderWall contributed in Game 2 at both the plate and from the mound, homering to drive in the Jayhawks’ two runs and holding Kellogg to just three hits and allowing walks in the loss.

Teammate Megan Jean took the loss, allowing three runs in four innings of work.
