The Muskegon Community College baseball team opened Thursday’s lsj-fb-logodoubleheader with an 11-2 romp over Mott Community College, then took its lumps with a 10-4 loss in the nightcap.

MCC pitcher Kyle Lawson was outstanding in the opener, giving up only three hits while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings. Robert Spencer was 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI. Ryan Beffrey added two hits and three RBIs while Jake Wagenmaker and Luke Bunting each had two hits.

Damon Proctor took the loss on the mound in the nightcap. Spencer and Wagenmaker each had two hits while Wagenmaker knocked in two runs.

The Jayhawks are now 18-10 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
