Muskegon Community College split a softball doubleheader with Kalamazoo Valley Community College on LSJ Logo incertThursday. The Jayhawks won 12-3 in the opener and lost 13-5 in the nightcap.

The Jayhawks broke open a 4-2 lead in Game 1 with a four-run fifth inning and added four more in the sixth. Lindsey Helsen sparked the fifth inning uprising with a two-run homer and finished with four RBIs in the game.

had three hits and an RBI, Megan VanderWeele had two hits and an RBI while Caten Teff had two hits, including an RBI double, for MCC. CJ Masseau also posted two hits for the Jayhawks.

MCC pitcher Alexis Carpenter posted the Game 1 win, giving up seven hits and two walks.

In the nightcap, the Cougars took control with four runs in the third inning, six in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

VanderWeele led MCC with two hits and two RBIs, Messeau and Meghan Birr both had two hits and Morgan Giddings had a hit and two RBIs.
