Fruitport’s Noah Hendricks opened the season with a bang on Saturday, scoring five goals and assisting on four others as the Trojans downed Greenville 6-0 and Sparta 5-1.
Hendricks scored all four of his goals against Greenville in the first half, giving the Trojans a 4-0 lead at halftime. Lucas Leslie and Zack Shane had assists on two of those goals.
Shane added a goal in the second half with an assist from Hendricks. Eli Flores scored the final tally with Hendricks assisting again.
Fruitport outshot Greenville 21-3. Goalkeeper Connor Werschem got the shutout while Jared Cloutier stood out defensively.
In the second game, Fruitport grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal by Flores and assist from Logan Fielding. Sparta knotted the score 1-1 at halftime with a goal from Franklin Rodriguez.
But Fruitport took control in the second half with four goals – one from Flores (Hendricks assist), one from Hendricks and two from Zack Shane (assists from Hendricks and Cameron Brandow).
JD Lory had a strong defensive game for Fruitport.
