The Muskegon Catholic volleyball team took home the first conference championship in school history on Saturday after winning the Lakes 8 conference tournament.

The Crusaders defeated Ludington (25-17, 21-25, 15-9) in the semifinals before defeating Manistee (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) in the finals.

The tournament title, combined with the regular season standings, gave the Crusaders the league title.

Zoie Price led Muskegon Catholic with 29 kills, 13 digs, and four blocks while Amelia Heminger added 64 assists. Calvinnae Simmons had 11 kills for Muskegon Catholic while Maria Sanocki and Caitlyn Fodrocy each had 13 digs.

Muskegon Catholic is 26-14 overall.

Western Michigan Christian finished second in the conference overall season and tournament results.

The Warriors went 1-1 in tournament action on Saturday, losing to Manistee (20-25, 25-11, 13-15) but defeating Ludington (25-22, 25-21) in the third place match.

Anna Sytsema led Western Michigan Christian with 12 kills, 13 digs, four blocks,and two aces while Chloe Mitchell had 33 assists, 11 digs, and two aces. Meghan Heiss had 26 digs for the Warriors while Anika Eenigenburg had six blocks.

Western Michigan Christian is now 25-22-1 overall on the season.

LudingtonĀ posted a 1-2 record in the tournament.

The Orioles Ā defeated Muskegon Heights (25-9, 25-9) before falling to Muskegon Catholic (17-25, 25-21, 9-15) and Western Michigan Christian (22-25, 21-25).

Abby Millspaugh led the Orioles with 13 kills on the day while Mackenzie Luce had six aces and 12 digs. Courtney Gerovac had 25 assists for Ludington.
