The Ludington boys basketball team survived a late comeback attempt by Manistee and escaped with a 44-41 victory on Friday in Lakes 8 Conference action.

Ludington (10-5, 7-1) led 22-10 at halftime and 34-17 midway through the third quarter, then Manistee cut the lead to 41-38 with just over a minute left.

But late free-throws from Brayden Porter and Sam Bandstra kept the game in the hands of the league-leading Orioles. Josh Laman scored 20 points to pace Ludington while Will Sadler added 11.

COOPERSVILLE 67, MONA SHORES 59 – Jarvis Walker’s 32-point, seven-rebound performance wasn’t quite enough to push the Sailors to a road win in non-conference action. Mona Shores trailed 32-26 at halftime, took a 47-44 lead after three, but couldn’t hold on in the final quarter. Ben Rosenthal chipped in nine points for the Sailors.

KENOWA HILLS 55, FRUITPORT 29 – The Trojans (2-14) got off to a rough start and couldn’t recover against Kenowa Hills. Fruitport trailed 10-3 after one, 30-10 at the half and 45-15 entering the fourth. Cameron Oleen scored eight points to lead Fruitport and Aric Stewart added seven.
