The Fremont football team battled back from a large deficit Friday night, but fell 39-26 to Big Rapids in a CSAA-Gold matchup.

The Packers fell behind 25-0 after one quarter and trailed 32-0 before getting on the scoreboard late in the second.

Matthew Halasinski scored on a 45-yard touchdown with under two minutes until halftime to bring the Packers within 32-6 at the break.

Shawn Murphy hauled in a 5-yard pass from Cody Andree in the third to pull within 32-12 heading into the fourth quarter.

After a Big Rapids touchdown, Packers back Tristen Marfia found the end zone on a 72-yard score. Payten Mansfield scored the game’s final touchdown on a fumble recovery return.

Marfia led the ground game for the Packers, rushing for 189 yards on 21 attempts. He also led the team with 22 yards receiving. Halasinski finished with 56 yards rushing.

Kyler Kolk led the Fremont defense with nine tackles.

Fremont will travel to Central Montcalm next Friday for another conference battle.
