The Hesperia football team lost a key player in the first quarter on Saturday and went on to fall to Lakeview 24-8 in a CSAA Silver Division matchup.

Logan Balkema, the Panthers’ starting quarterback on offense and leading tackler on defense, was knocked out of the game with an ankle injury.

Despite that, Hesperia only trailed 12-8 at halftime. But Lakeview scored 12 unanswered points in the third quarter to seal up the victory.

Logan Pearson was the Panthers’ leading rusher with 106 yards on 24 carries. Johnny Majersky, stepping in at quarterback, completed 6 of 15 passes for 51 yards while throwing one interception. Kaiden Robbins caught three passes for 21 yards.

Trayton McKinnon led the Hesperia defense with 10 tackles, Connor VanBuskirk had eight and Majersky snagged an interception.

Hesperia, now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, will host Kent City next Friday.
