Fremont struggled to slow the Ludington offense in a 41-22 loss Friday night. The Packers are now 0-2 on the season and the Orioles are 1-1.

The Orioles rushed out to a 14-0 lead after two four-yard rushing touchdowns in the first quarter.

Ludington added three more touchdowns in the second quarter, one on the ground and two through the air. The Orioles led 34-0 at halftime. 

Fremont put together a strong showing in the second half, outsourcing Ludington 22-7 after the break.

The Packers opened the third-quarter scoring with quarterback Payton Mansfield connecting with Gabe Van Vleet for an 18-yard touchdown to make it 34-6.

After Ludington responded with a 75-yard rushing touchdown to make it 41-6, the Packers scored the final 16 points. 

Fremont’s defense scored a safety to open up fourth-quarter scoring, followed by Mansfield and Van Vleet connecting for the second time of the night, this time for a 12-yard passing touchdown.

Mansfield closed the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 41-22. 

Mansfield threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 57 yards and one score.

Van Vleet had five catches for 71 yards receiving.

Fremont’s defense was led by Michael Romero with eight tackles and Gabe DeLong with two tackles for loss.
